The larger beach at Traethmawr (Newport Sands) is also within walking distance via the iron bridge and there is an 18 hole golf course close-by.

Newport is set at the foot of Carningli Mountain where you can walk to the top and enjoy wonderful views of Newport Bay and the Preseli Hills and even to Ireland on a clear day.

The coastal walkers' bus can be caught in the town enabling you to walk a different stretch of coast path every day.

When you arrive in Newport you can park your car and forget about using it until you need to go home.

Enjoying a tranquil setting in the heart of the Preseli hills in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Plas y Bangor (The House on the Great Bank) makes a fabulous getaway.

The cottage is tucked away down a lane, surrounded by pasture and woodland with valley views from each room.

Footpaths criss-cross the land giving immediate access to many miles of walking in an area of unspoilt beauty, steeped in history and folklore.

Pentre Ifan burial chamber, probably the most iconic Cromlech in Wales, is a pleasant half hour walk through country lanes passing by Ty Canol wood; part of the largest block of ancient woodland in West Wales.

Just downstream is the rocky outcrop where the bluestones for Stonehenge were extracted (see photo of excavation).

The seaside town of Newport is 10 minute drive and offers a variety of individual shops and galleries, good eateries, welcoming pubs and a Local Produce Market every Monday.

Nearby beaches include, Newport Sands, Parrog, Pwllgwaeold, Cwm yr Eglwys and Poppit Sands.

The towns of Cardigan, Fishguard, Narberth and Newcastle Emlyn are worth exploring too.

The cottage has been thoughtfully extended to provide a welcoming and wholesome environment; there is an eclectic range of local arts and crafts collected by the owners over the years making it quirky and individual.

The coastal path is just a 20 minute walk from the house through a wooded valley with a high waterfall to Aberfforest beach.

Part of one of the 3 organic hay and flower meadows to the rear of the garden has been planted with heritage apple trees. You can wander freely through the mown meadow paths of each field and enjoy lovely coastal views of Newport Bay.

Beehives, marsh orchids and shallow ponds mean that there is abundant wildlife in this semi-natural habitat.

The owners, who have lived here for 45 years, are happy to share their extensive knowledge of their land and the natural history of Pembrokeshirewith their guests.

The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path is nearby and the coastal walkers bus passes the end of the drive - all you need to do is flag it down.

Newport is just 3 miles away and known as the pearl of the Pembrokeshire coast.  It has some great pubs, superb restaurants, galleries, individual shops and a weekly Produce Market.

Ceibwr Bay is also well worth a visit, there is a small quiet pebble beach here and seals are often spotted swimming along this part of the coast.

There is also an excellent 18 hole links golf course just above Newport Sands which enjoys glorious panoramic views of the beach and Newport.

The hamlet of Iet-y-Bontpren is located at one end of Dinas Cross which is between the seaside towns of Newport and Fishguard.

The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path can be joined nearby and the coastal walkers bus (and the service bus) pass the house.  A walk along the coastal path not only provides superb scenery, you may also see seals, birds and even dolphins and porpoise.  If you need more of an adrenaline rush try a Coasteering adventure.

Dinas Island, Strumble Head, Newport beach, Cwm-yr-Eglwys beach and Pwllgwaelod beach are all within 10 to 20 minutes drive.  Newport and Fishguard both have a weekly Farmers Market and plenty of galleries, individual shops, eateries and pubs.  The holiday cottage is perfect for families and for walking and cycling holidays.

There are grounds amounting to about half an acre - with parking area, lawns, picnic table, woodland shrubbery, enclosed fishpond, a stream and a natural spring.

Within walking distance of the delightful beaches at Cwm yr Eglwys and Pwllgwaelod, this semi-detached National Trust owned farm house offers peace, seclusion and a near perfect location on a working farm in north Pembrokeshire.

The traditional slate fronted farm house is situated in a sheltered position on Dinas Island and the walk around the island (actually a promontory headland) is part of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path and has been awarded the AA Walk of the Year numerous times and featured in The Times 20 Great British Walks.

Every effort has been made to ensure that your stay will be comfortable and welcoming. There is an excellent pub "The Old Sailors" with restaurant overlooking the beach and nearby, in the village, a further selection of pubs and village shops.

If you are bringing a dog on holiday with you, there are two dog friendly beaches within a 15 minute walk, plus the lovely walk around the headland for them to enjoy too.

Within 200 yards of the delightful beach at the Parrog in Newport, this simple and un-fussy, secluded property makes an ideal base for a relaxing holiday in north Pembrokeshire.

There are numerous shops, craft shops, restaurants and pubs within walking distance as well as direct access to the Coastal Path.

At low tide you can walk across the Estuary to the Traeth Mawr (Newport Sands) with its extensive silver sands and patrolled swimming area. Head west along the coast path at low tide to discover two lesser known small beaches at Bettws and Cwm - both great for rock pooling and only a 5 minute walk from the property.

A favourite pursuit with local children is to catch crabs from the sea wall on the Parrog at high tide using a string and bacon as bait.
